The Supernatural Man – Part vi – Power

The Supernatural Man – Part vi

All Power is Given Unto Me

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.(Matthew 28:18)

And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, (Deuteronomy 10:12)

In our present day, as we look upon all men, we see a world wandering through the dark corridors of sin; man is confused about his very existence. He has no foundation, no firm ground to plant his feet upon. He struggles within, his mind is short circuited with sin that only drags him, the children of Adam, deeper into the darkness. They reason one to another, Why am I here, what is my purpose in this world that is out of control — who is in control? Yet there was One who came from heaven’s glory who knew His total purpose, the total reason, and the total of His life was for God’s purpose under heaven. The Son of God was sent of the Father from before the foundations of the world; the Son of God understood His own conception. Like no other man He understood His shape and His form: the manifestation of God as a mere man. He understood His pathway through life, and every foot step as He walked through the humanity of His world. He knew where every foot step would lead Him. He could see the cross when He was yet in the womb, before He was born in the likeness of man. Before His ears were formed in the womb He could hear the cries, Crucify him, crucify him. He, who held the scepter of great power and majesty, the One who spoke the worlds into existence, and scattered the stars through the heavens, He who had placed all things in their proper order (both within and without), and viewed the tangibles, and stood by the invisible, for the visible walked within the invisible. I often think of the many great differences of this Man, Jesus Christ.

We look at ourselves as man the visible image. We admit that there is a spirit within man, and that spirit walks with the visible within. This spirit pleases our outward visible. In Adam the spiritual is in subjection to man in Adam, and under Adam’s sin, however, the fullness of the Godhead bodily did not walk after the course of man. For in Him was no sin, He did no sin, and sin had no hold on His Spirit. Christ walked through this earth under the power of the Spirit of God to please the divine Spirit. The true outward manifestation of Christ was veiled. The Spirit of Christ and His manifested glory was only visible on the holy mount. Peter, James, and John viewed the full outward manifestation of the Spirit of Christ revealing Himself with much greater beauty and majesty than the manifestation of His flesh on earth. The visible image of Christ, His Spirit, was now within the revelation of God to man in His beloved Son. The transfiguration of the Lord Jesus Christ revealed the true image of the Son of God upon the earth. The true image of the son of man on earth, the true image of the Son of His love, and the Son of God to man. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. (John 1:14) They were eye witnesses of His majesty, He glowed and beamed as the sun, as the Spirit magnified His radiance to Peter, James and John. John would later see Him as the son of man, the resurrected man in glory. He would be an eye witness to the fullness of God in Jesus Christ. When John turned to see the voice that spoke unto him, the sight was so great that he fell at the Savior’s feet as a dead man. Later, John, saw all the glory and majesty of the throne sitter, the Lord Jesus Christ. These are just a few observations of the mortal as He passes through the Scriptures. But this mortal shall put on immortality because all power has been given to Christ in heaven and in earth.

Power Made Visible

This word ‘power’ is so descriptive of God’s Son, Jesus Christ. God uses the word ‘power’ many times as applied to His Son, Jesus Christ. Christ is the power of God.

For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. (1 Corinthians 1:21)

For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: (1 Corinthians 1:22)

But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; (1 Corinthians 1:23)

But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. (1 Corinthians 1:24)

Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; (Hebrews 1:3)

Christ is not only the authority of power, but He is also the instrument of God’s power. His power comes before wisdom, His power is contained in His word that reveals His wisdom unto man. All power is given unto Him in heaven and earth. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.(Matthew 28:18) This is the mystery of the divine. There is one great fact that men ignore, whether they willingly or by ignorance ignore, I do not know; the truth to every believer, however, is that we have a Man in heaven for us; the Man Jesus Christ, the righteous Man. The Man who is all power in both heaven and earth. God had prepared a body so that Christ would be manifested on earth. He had brought forth a man for the sole purpose of manifesting this man who was not of Adam. Here on earth the Son of God trod a path that He had never walked before. The creation of God became His own creation. He prepared His own body, a visible Being to fulfill all righteousness by the death of the cross, and His glorious resurrection.

Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.(John 8:42)

Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. (John 10:17)

No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father. (John 10:18)

The invisible became visible life. The Son of God put Himself in subjection to His own creation. When it was cold, He was cold, when it was hot, He was hot, when He was hunger He ate, when the creation around Him was groaning and travailing He felt within Himself the divine pressure to unchain them.

For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. (Romans 8:18)

For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. (Romans 8:19)

For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, (Romans 8:20)

Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. (Romans 8:21)

For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. (Romans 8:22)

The Work of Redemption Finished

In verse 22, the Spirit of God unshackled the creation using the words ‘until now.’ The Spirit of God has brought the manifestation, the death, the resurrection of Christ, the liberty of the sons of God, and the redemption of the creation to a present time: showing us the work of redemption is finished. And we must wait patiently for the redemption of our body and the liberty of the sons of God as Christ has finished the complete work of redemption. He will manifest it in His glorious millennial kingdom (and beyond) when He will sit down with the sons of God in the new heaven and the new earth. He, the Creator of all things, walked through the corridors of sin, for sin had tainted the whole world.

A New Domain Formed: Death and Sin

Adam by his transgression brought the cloud of sin and darkness over the whole world. All creation’s beauty was put in subjection to sin. Adam had scarred the whole world by his sin. Every living creature would now be under the veil of sin. The creature would be humbled and would be changed from their pre-fall glory. They would be put in subjection to the fallen world. Earth itself would groan and travail for what it had become. Sin had darkened the very smallest grain of sand, and the very dust in the air. The world would now be a place of death, and not life. Adam had called the animals by name, and now the animals were estranged from Adam. He had taken them into darkness, he had created in his fall a new domain of sin and death. And now the animals would experience the fear of man. The monster of man became the monster of death and destruction. He was loosed on the whole world, and the whole world suffered a spiritual supernatural rip on that darkest day; and from that day Adam only grew darker, as Cain murdered his brother Abel. The darkness of Adam’s soul breached the soul of his first born. God, however, was not limited in His power for He had power over heaven and earth. He was the Creator of all things, and He still upheld all things by the word of His power.

Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; (Hebrews 1:3)

Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: (Colossians 1:15)

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: (Colossians 1:16)

Sin was in the world, but sin had to be vanquished. It also had to be proven through the history of mankind. Man would have to see the full extent of the vileness of sin. He would have to see and experience his own lack, and his own infirmities, he would have to feel the judgment of God against man’s sin, he would have to see the upheaval of the world around him because of Adam’s sin. Nothing could be left out in the history, in the description, and the vileness of the sin of Adam.

The Title Deeds Belong to God

God would never relinquish His claim to the world, He would have to reconcile it to Himself, by Himself through Jesus Christ, our Lord. <<A Psalm of David.>> The earth is the LORD’S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. (Psalm 24:1) For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.(Psalm 24:2) The title deeds of earth never belonged to man. Man was given dominion, but he never received the deeds of creation. The Creator still embraced the world, and they that dwell therein as His.

He would send One who had clean hands, and a pure heart. This One would ascend into two hills, the first hill: mount Moriah (or Calvary); the Lord Jesus would come into the world to die on mount Moriah, to give His life to redeem that which was lost in Adam. He would also claim possession of the very earth that had fallen to sin. The second hill would be the hill of Zion. Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. (Psalm 2:6) On the second hill, Zion, He will receive His kingdom. His kingdom will be over all the earth. Once again, all on the planet will be in subjection to the God who sits upon the throne in Zion. He will receive His kingdom as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.

“For This Cause Came I”

He will be the object or Man of all power in heaven and earth. Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. (John 18:37) I’m sure Pilate did not understand the fullness of these words, for had he understood, he would have released the Prince of Life. In the determinate counsels of God, God had raised up Pilate for this time as He had raised up Pharaoh for His sole purpose of delivering Israel. God, now used Pilate in the process of delivering the whole world. Christ had come into the world, He had come into His own creation, He had subjected Himself to the horrors of mankind, and man totally abused his own Creator. They cast the Prince of Life out of the world, We have no king but Caesar (John 19:15), We will not have this man to reign over us (Luke 19:13) Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas (John 18:40), a man after our own hearts. At this point in your conviction, would you say, Is there any hope for mankind?

The Supernatural Power Put Himself in Subjection to . . .

The Lord had descended from His Father’s bosom, He was sent by the Father into the world, the God of heaven was manifested in the dominion of mankind. He put His timeless Being into subjection of time. The fullness of time became the glory of God. But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, (Galatians 4:4) To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. (Galatians 4:5) And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. (Galatians 4:6)

The Supernatural Power from the Womb

In the conception of the Lord Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit of God the angel declared that He would be called that holy thing. We read in Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. There was no doubt given by the angel of the purity of the Son of God. While in the womb He was holy. At His birth, He was holy. In His walk upon His earth, He was holy. In His death upon the cross, He fulfilled the righteousness of God because He was that holy thing. While He waited in the darkness of the womb, He ticked the seconds, the minutes, and the hours of time till His birth. Knowing His complete path through His earth, that His life would lead Him to death, and that death upon the cross of Calvary. Christ knew the exact moment that He would declare from the cross, It is finished. The man, Adam, would cease to exist in God’s sight. The new Man would now be manifested in heaven above. As the flood of judgment fell on all flesh during the days of Noah, the judgment of God fell on one Man for all flesh in the flesh of Jesus Christ. The time had come for Adam to be put away. Adam was finished. Adam would no longer be the man of dominion, and although the man, Jesus Christ, would travail in death for three days and nights in the power of God, He would come forth a new Man with all power in heaven and earth. (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? (Ephesians 4:9) He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.) (Ephesians 4:10) Our new Man would have dominion over principalities, and powers, both seen and unseen.

The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, (Ephesians 1:18)

And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, (Ephesians 1:19)

Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, (Ephesians 1:20)

Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: (Ephesians 1:21)

And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, (Ephesians 1:22)

Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all. (Ephesians 1:23)

And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. (Colossians 1:17)

And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. (Colossians 1:18)

For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; (Colossians 1:19)

And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. (Colossians 1:20)

And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled (Colossians 1:21)

In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: (Colossians 1:22)

These Scriptures are a reference, and I hope a comfort to your soul. They are a display of the Spirit of God’s intelligence to us of all the power that has been given to the Son of God, Jesus Christ, the new Man in heaven for us. Especially in verse 19 of Ephesians, Chapter 1: And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power. The exceeding unmeasurable power of His greatness is to us-ward, to those who believe. If we understand the fullness of His power in this Man in heaven for us, nothing, I say, nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. All power has been given unto Him both in heaven and earth. When the Spirit of God confirms this wonderful truth in the soul of the believer all the mysteries of God that are held within the word of God can be opened in the believers’ spirit and soul.

The Supernatural Power In the Womb

One of these mysteries that man overlooks is the mystery of God’s sovereignty. I give you an obscure example. When Mary entered the room where Elizabeth was, the babe within Elizabeth’s womb leaped for joy.

And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda; (Luke 1:39)

And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth. (Luke 1:40)

And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: (Luke 1:41)

And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. (Luke 1:42)

And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? (Luke 1:43)

For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. (Luke 1:44)

In these Scriptures, the babe in the womb leaped for joy is mentioned twice, John (although not born yet) had full understanding of who had entered into the room in the womb of Mary. This is a witness of God’s sovereignty, and dominion over all flesh. It is also a witness of God against those who would tamper with the fruit of the womb. Why do I connect sovereignty with this event. These two unborn in the wombs communicated with each other. The supernatural broke the bands of the natural in His sovereignty to communicate with the unborn John. This was just a small portion of what was to come. We should remember that both the birth and conception of John and the Lord of glory were both supernatural. John’s birth was foretold by the angel, God Himself, rekindled Elizabeth’s womb so that the forerunner would come to deliver the message and reveal the Savior of the world, the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world. The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. (John 1:29)

The Supernatural Power of God: The Sovereignty Of God

We remember in the book of Genesis that Sarah was past the time of childbearing, yet, God supernaturally gave her a child in Isaac. In John, we have a man called of God before he was in his mother’s womb, for the angel not only declared his birth, but gave the exact name that he would be called. And only His father would be able to proclaim that name, if this is not sovereignty, then there is no sovereignty. And while in the womb, the Lord Jesus was the Sovereign God.

In the book of Jeremiah, we also have the work of God’s sovereignty in the call and birth of Jeremiah: in that exact order. God could say to Jeremiah, I knew you before you were in your mother’s womb. Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, (Jeremiah 1:4) Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. (Jeremiah 1:5) The supernatural power of God’s sovereignty is beyond the thoughts and reasoning of mankind, yet, God in His grace reveals this grand truth of soverignty to all men if they would but believe. The psalmist states that in Psalm 139, My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. (Psalm 139:15) Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.(Psalm 139:16) How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! (Psalm 139:17)

Since God knows and understands a being before the being is in the womb, and since God (in His divine mind of His determinate counsel and foreknowledge) knows each and every one of my members before they were fashioned, is not this sovereignty? And in that place of sovereignty does He not know my full path of life? Does He not know the work that was completed on Calvary for me? I leave you with this thought on God’s sovereignty: sovereignty is no mystery to God.

Before the Lord Jesus was born He was the supernatural man, and He would spend His whole life, and death in that supernatural state. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. (2 Corinthians 5:21) God’s sovereignty made Him to be sin for us. This was One prepared who knew no sin, and because of His death, we who believe (and are written in God’s book of life) are made the righteousness of God in the supernatural man in heaven who has all power in heaven and earth. All the Lord Jesus would do, everything that He would say, every breathe, every motion, every thought was by a divine Man for a divine purpose. He was to make in Himself of twain one new Man. A Man with all power in heaven above, and all power within earth beneath.

For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; (Ephesians 2:14)

Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; (Ephesians 2:15)

And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:. (Ephesians 2:16)

The Supernatural Man: A New Man

So that you will remember: open your Bible, don’t be afraid, underline one new man. God the Holy Spirit has given us a supernatural man in heaven. This same supernatural man redeemed us by His death, and shed blood on Calvary. Now, this supernatural man in heaven for us contains all the mysteries of God. He wants to share those mysteries with your heart and soul. Remember, before you were saved, you knew none of these mysteries, even your own salvation was hidden from your knowledge, and was a mystery you did not, and could not understand. All the mysteries of God are hid in Jesus Christ our Savior. It was God, Himself, of twain has made one new man in heaven for us. He has made peace for us. And He has taken the enmity out of our hearts. I can only give you what the Spirit of God has declared in the word of God. I can only give you what the Living God, the Living Word in His Son has revealed through His written word. On the cross was a body prepared for the sole purpose of taking sin out of the world, and nailing that sin to the cross. He who knew no sin became sin for us. This was the body of Jesus Christ that was nailed to the cross, who came into this world in the likeness of sinful flesh.

For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: (Romans 8:3)

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. (2 Corinthians 5:21)

Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: (Galatians 3:13)

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. (1 Peter 2:24)

In Romans 8:3, we have the likeness of sinful flesh, why? because all flesh had to be dealt with, that includes all the redeemed of the Lord, and all those who will face the lake of fire at the great white throne judgment. God in His divine power had to work a supernatural miracle. This would be the end of all flesh on the cross by destroying sin on the cross, by breaking death’s hold on man all in His beloved Son, and nailing that flesh, and that sin to the cross of Christ in His own body.

Just a side note: the man Jesus Christ was born the Son of God. The angel declared that He would be the Son of God. This was in the likeness of sinful flesh according to the word of God, He was also the son of man. He was always in all eternity God’s Son, the only begotten Son which is in the bosom of the Father.  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. (John 1:14) No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. (John 1:18)

Christ was sent of the Father, His Sonship is eternal, His work is the eternal purpose of God in relationship that He is both God the Son, Son of the Father, and at the same time son of man. He remains today as a supernatural Man in heaven for us. For only a supernatural Man can have all power in heaven and on earth.

While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:18)

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. (Romans 6:6)

There is an eternal relationship between the Son and God the Father, and the Spirit of God. This is the essence or the completeness of the Godhead. The Son cannot be separated from the Father, nor the Father from the Son, nor can the Spirit of God be separated from either one. All three are the fullness of the Godhead bodily. Jesus Christ is the display of that Godhead. He is the One sitting on the throne in Revelation, Chapter 4. He is being displayed as the Almighty God. This is the Man who is manifested in heaven for us. He is the supernatural Man, He is the Being that displays all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. The Spirit of God declares through the word of God that God the Son is the fullness of the Godhead bodily. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. (Colossians 2:8) For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. (Colossians 2:9) In verse 8, we are warned about men who will deny that Christ is the fullness of the Godhead bodily. Verse 8 is specifically speaking of the Lord Jesus Christ, and this the Spirit speaketh expressly because verse 9 (there needs to be no confusion) the Spirit of God declares that Christ is the fullness of the Godhead bodily. In Him is all the fullness of God. This is the same One who endured the cross for you. This is the same One who took your sin upon Himself. This is the same One who dealt the final blow to sin on the cross when He gave Himself for the sin of the world. There is no limited atonement in the work of Christ on the cross. For He is unto us who believe life unto life, and to those who refuse to believe, He is death unto death. He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. (John 3:36) But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.(Revelation 21:8) Sin had to be completely eradicated. In these Scriptures (John 3:36, and Revelation 21:8) they are judged at the great white throne judgement based on their unbelief in Jesus Christ. Sin is not mentioned because sin has already been judged at the cross. All sin had to be nailed to the cross in order to redeem the redeemed and to judge those who would not believe. We also should consider the redemption of the very creation, and what sin in the world really meant: sin is an enemy of God.

The creatures themselves are waiting for the redemption of the sons of God. All had to be finished in Christ for God to be just, and the Justifier of those who come to Him through Jesus Christ. Sin had to receive it’s final blow on the cross, flesh had to end, and death had to be overthrown. Death had to be broken and taken out of the way.

But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. (Hebrews 2:9)

Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; (Hebrews 2:14)

And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. (Hebrews 2:15)

So far on the cross the divine Creator dealt with sin, He dealt with the flesh, He dealt with Adam, and then He broke the bands of death. We are not done yet. He also defeated all the works of the devil. He destroyed the devil, and delivered him up for judgment in the last day. In Adam the old man must die. In Satan the deceiver has to be destroyed; all this was accomplished by the one who took upon Himself the likeness of sinful flesh. God the Father, now, watching and beholding all these transactions veiled the world in darkness because of the magnitude against His Son, so that the Lord Jesus could cry out, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

The Supernatural Power on The Cross

Three things I would like us to notice during the time that Christ was on the cross. I begin with the thief, the Lord said to him, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise. This is the immediate proof of Christ’s redeeming power created in this thief a man worthy of heaven only because of God’s sovereignty Christ proclaimed, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise. This was the pre-resurrection proof that Christ had the power to save, which He had declared to the Pharisees, that He had the power to forgive sins. But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house. (Luke 5:24)

Secondly, let’s consider the creation: darkness came over the whole earth. Everything was veiled in darkness, truly a symbol of Satan’s wicked works and the dark heart of mankind. And yet, when the work was finished, a new day broke forth, a beam of light came out of the abyss and man beheld a new light and a new day.

Thirdly, we have the veil in the temple. It was rent from top to bottom. This spoke of the deliverance of Israel from the firm hand of the law. The law was being removed and being replaced by grace. Grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. All hail the Man in heaven who sits upon the throne of God and has all power in heaven and earth.

Enmity: Deep Rooted Hatred

Once more, let’s return to the cross. What else could be dealt with? the enmity of man in Adam. In Webster’s Dictionary definition enmity is ‘deep rooted hatred.’ They hated me without a causeHe came unto His own and they received Him not. Yet, He removed enmity as documented in Ephesians 2:15 and 16, Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:.

This enmity is a hatred within mankind that comes from Adam. We see this hatred in Cain, for he hated God before he hated his brother. And because of his brother’s obedience to God, Cain murdered Abel based on his hatred for God. We tend to overlook this in man because of the condition of man. If you ask a man on the street, Do you hate God? He would most probably would say, No, of course not, yet that same man would sign a petition to remove the ten commandments off the court house walls. This is enmity, and this enmity is against God. Man cannot see clearly through a dirty window. Only with spiritual vision from above can man see his total condition of depravity.

When someone declares that there is no God, he is not only a fool, but he is expressing his enmity, his hatred for God. When a man murders another man that was created in the image of God he is expressing his enmity and his hatred for God. This is in respect to the commandment, Thou shalt not kill. For this was the divine commandment given by God when man breaks any of God’s commandments he is expressing His hatred for God. The hatred of God in this world is world wide. There have been governments that have tried to take God completely out of their society: under Nazi Germany, they burned the books of knowledge as well as a huge number of Bibles (the word of God) because of the hatred against God in their hearts.

Christ took all that enmity into His flesh as He walked among the Jews for He said, They hated me without a cause (John 15:25) (Psalm 35:19, 69:4) And as He hung between earth and heaven upon the cross of Calvary, the shouts from the Jews were only part of that enmity, and yet, the Lord Jesus from His heart and from the travail of His soul could cry out, Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots. (Luke 23:34) Christ knew exactly what their needs were, He knew exactly what had to be done, He knew exactly what was in man and that man hated God. This hatred was poured out upon Him, His skin felt the hate, His Spirit felt the hate, His soul felt the hate, and His heart (though broken for them) felt the hate. In the darkness that overshadowed the earth, the whole of the Godhead felt the hate. From the creature to the Creator, as they hated Him without a cause, this hatred also was revealed at the same moment that Adam partook of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. This is why the old man, the man of flesh, must be crucified with Christ. The world needs to be crucified unto me, and I need to be crucified unto the world. This is my station, and my state in Jesus Christ. I cannot get to heaven unless I go through the cross, I cannot see the glorious man unless I see the man of the cross. And no one will ever see His glories in heaven without knowing His work upon the cross. To make way for a new Man, a glorious Man, a supernatural Man who in heaven has abolished in His flesh the enmity.

What The Supernatural Man Did For Us on the Cross

Now, He made of twain one new man. That was the supernatural removal of all that was against us, but this is what He gave us: supernaturally He reconciled us to God, supernaturally He gave us peace, supernaturally He took our sin upon Him, supernaturally He brought death to life (Galatians 2:20), supernaturally He made in Himself one new Man (and we will be found in this image which we are a part of in heaven), supernaturally He brought God’s righteousness to man, supernaturally He has and is pouring out His faith upon man, and supernaturally He is giving His grace to all who will come to God through Him. And these are just a few of the many divine miracles that Christ performed while on the cross, and from the cross.

The Supernatural Power Revealed

We did not mention the creation of God, for the Christ of God is the creation of God. In His manifestation the supernatural became His own creation, and subjected Himself to that very creation, yet even in subjection He reveals His power of who He was in the very miracles that He performed. In His power over creation He stilled the winds, and quieted the stormy seas. In His power over the result of sin in Adam, He opened the eyes of the blind. In His compassion upon mankind He fed the multitudes, and when it came to man’s affliction and disease He healed all who came unto Him. He showed His power over the devil in casting out the demons. He showed His power over death when on several occasions He raised the dead and gave them life. All these miracles were His divine power over sin that had come into the world by Adam because Adam could not be reformed, he had to be completely eliminated.

And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;(Revelation 3:14)

For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; (Colossians 1:9)

That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; (Colossians 1:10)

Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; (Colossians 1:11)

Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: (Colossians 1:12)

Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: (Colossians 1:13)

In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: (Colossians 1:14)

Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:(Colossians 1:15)

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:(Colossians 1:16)

And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled (Colossians 1:21

In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: (Colossians 1:22)

Both in Revelation 3 and Colossians 1 we have a divine link in the Scriptures between the Church at Colossae, and the Church of the Laodiceans. In both epistles were to be read in each church or assembly. It is interesting that the church of the Laodicieans is the last church mentioned in Revelation. It is to this church that Christ presents Himself as the creation of God, also our text, in Colossians 1, opens with the creatorial power of the Lord Jesus Christ both in things in heaven and things on earth. Even the creation of a whole new Man in every believer, for He is the beginning of the creation of God. We, as new born babes, are created by Jesus Christ. We are a new creation in Him who has the power of heaven and earth. One of the reasons that the Spirit of God spends so much time describing the creatorial power of Jesus Christ for the Spirit knows the mind of man, and how in these last days man would deny the creatorial power of God in Jesus Christ. The theory of evolution comes from the haters of God, they hate God in such a way that they will deny their very own creation. They would rather be subject to an amoeba, then to be subject to the Almighty God. In many forms these false ideas has crept into the church where some believe in partial evolution, and others believe in creatorial evolution. These are all lies. Simply this: if one does not believe that He is divinely created how then can he ever be divinely born again? Evolution is a deception of the devil, and of the dark hearts of man.

All power has been given unto Christ. The supernatural Man in heaven is for us as our great Creator and great Redeemer. We live within this power for He has translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son. Paul stated in Galatians 2:20, that Christ liveth in me, he recognized the presence of the Spirit of Christ within him. (Romans 8:9) The Lord Himself stated that we would be one with Him.

I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.(John 15:5)

And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them. (John 17:26)

That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. (John 17:21)

And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.(John 17:10)

In every believer who God has called out of darkness there is a presence of the Spirit of Christ within them. This is a recognizable presence to the one who beholds Him. To continue in this thought we will consider the following references.

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. (Romans 8:14)

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. (Romans 8:15)

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: (Romans 8:16)

And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. (Romans 8:17)

To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. (Galatians 4:5)

And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. (Galatians 4:6)

In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, (Ephesians 1:13)

Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. (Ephesians 1:14)

These Scriptures are links between the supernatural Man and every believer born of God. The soul of the believer can rest in the knowledge of the Spirit of Christ within them. This is the place of God’s rest. (Hebrews 4) We are in Christ: and Christ is in me. And this is upheld by all the power in both heaven and earth in One supernatural Man, that Man Jesus Christ who has all power of heaven and earth. Amen.
