Jehoshaphat – Part 13 – Deliverance

Jehoshaphat – Part 13

Deliverance

And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper. (2 Chronicles 20:20)

And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever. (2 Chronicles 20:21)

And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten. (2 Chronicles 20:22)

For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another. (2 Chronicles 20:23)

And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped. (2 Chronicles 20:24)

They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out. (John 9:34)

Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? (John 9:35)

He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him? (John 9:36)

And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. (John 9:37)

And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him. (John 9:38)

Supernatural Deliverance and The Power of God

And they rose early in the morning to meet the new day; this would be their day of deliverance out of the hand of the Moabites for God will supernaturally judge the Moabites. God was working in His power to assemble this great host for the destruction of His enemies, and the enemies of Judah and Jerusalem. God will destroy the Moabites not by Judah’s hand, but by the hand of the Moabites themselves. They will turn their own swords against each other.

Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. (Matthew 22:29) Even though I have taken this verse in Matthew’s gospel out of it’s context I have not removed it’s content in that this verse holds one of the eternal and foundational truths of God. It is through the lack of knowledge of the Scriptures and the understanding of the power of God that man does err. Man’s intelligence in Adam can only rise to a certain level. He cannot grasp the unseen and the unknown power of God as he cannot grasp the truth of the Scriptures. For all the knowledge of the Divine must come from His Person to man. Man cannot acquire the knowledge of God except it be given to him by God. Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. Man looks upon the visible and the tangible even though (through man, technology, and his science) he has been able to increase his knowledge in things that the eye cannot see. He has also used this knowledge to enhance the visible and the tangible for he cannot see himself in another realm because of Adam. We lack divine perception in the things we cannot see concerning God and His creation. Man cannot understand the true work of the Holy Spirit of God for the Holy Spirit is God’s power on earth today. He dwells within the children of God, His work is not to exalt Himself nor to exalt the children of God, but His work is to glorify the Person of the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ. He works in us to give us a mind like our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: (Philippians 2:5)

Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:(Philippians 2:6)

But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: (Philippians 2:7)

And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. (Philippians 2:8)

This is a mind of humbleness. The Spirit of God (that was in Christ Jesus) is working conforming us to the image of Christ. There is no collective meeting or gathering that can accomplish this work within us; it is only the work of the Holy Spirit that can conform us into the image of Christ. And in conforming us there are two images in one Person: the one is the historical record of the man Christ Jesus, this is the image on earth, this is the suffering Christ; the second image is the heavenly and glorified image of Christ, both one man — a new man in heaven.

That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: (Ephesians 2:12)

But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. (Ephesians 2:13)

For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; (Ephesians 2:14)

Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; (Ephesians 2:15)

And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: (Ephesians 2:16)

The Theology of Heaven

Do you see it? Let’s go deeper into the mind of the Spirit. We are brought to God by God’s dear Son. We are brought to God by His death on the cross, and there we die in Him, and because we have died with Him we are brought to heaven in the new man by His resurrection. God sees us in His Son, and thus, we are partakers of the Lord Jesus for He has declared that He will dwell within us, and we will dwell within Him. This is what the natural eye cannot see, nor the natural heart understand. We have been changed by the power of God, and we are a new creature in Jesus Christ. We, as Christians, are heavenly beings and beings of eternity for we have been changed from Adam to become a new heavenly creation in Jesus Christ; therefore, we are no longer of Adam, but we are now of Christ and in Christ. (This is what the world church wants to deny us: that we are the sons of God, and we belong to heaven not to the earth.) The first man was of the earth, earthly; the second man is the Lord from heaven.

It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. (1 Corinthians 15:44)

And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. (1 Corinthians 15:45)

Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. (1 Corinthians 15:46)

The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. (1 Corinthians 15:47)

As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.(1 Corinthians 15:48)

And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. (1 Corinthians 15:49)

He is the new man in heaven for us. He is the glorified man, and this is the power of God. From the unseen to the seen, we are both of Him, and in Him. The Lord came from the unseen to the seen as He was manifested in the flesh. At the completion of His work, He left this realm of the seen to return to the realm of the unseen. We are of Him in the life that we now live upon this earth. We are seen in the work of Calvary. We are of Him in our relationship to the Christ of the cross. We are in Him in our relationship to heaven. We are of Him in the seen and we are in Him in the unseen — which is the power of God. For with God nothing is impossible. The miraculous life that we have and share with God’s dear Son is the manifestation of the power of God. The world does err not knowing the Scriptures. What they miss — not knowing the Creator of all things. What they miss — by not having the breathe of the Holy Spirit within them. This is truly the manifestation of the power of God.

The Wilderness of Tekoa — The Wilderness of the Trumpet Blast

The people of Judah and Jerusalem and Jehoshaphat rose early in the morning. They were a new people, they had cried out to Jehovah and Jehovah had heard and answered their cry by the prophecy of Jahaziel, the Levite. Notice the new attitude of the people, they were humble before God, and they were being led by the Spirit of God. God tested their faith by bringing them into the wilderness, and their faith answered God’s call.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1)

For by it the elders obtained a good report. (Hebrews 11:2)

Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. (Hebrews 11:3)

Remember when Jehoshaphat and the two confederate kings went up against Moab in the land of Edom, there was no water, and it seemed that all was lost. The king of Israel, Jehoram, blamed Jehovah for their plight for bringing them into the wilderness. Even though they were disobedient at that time Jehovah was faithful and delivered them. We find the people of Judah and Jerusalem, now, in another wilderness. But they were now united in faith for they are following the Lord, and they have moved according to the word of God and His prophet. They came into the wilderness of Tekoa (later in time and in Scripture, Tekoa is noted as the home of Amos the prophet). This wilderness was south of Jerusalem, it began about 20 or 30 miles from Jerusalem. They marched into this wilderness of Tekoa (by the way, Tekoa means ‘A Trumpet Blast’). When we search the Scriptures we find that the nation of Israel went to war at the sound of the trumpet.

King Jehoshaphat stood in the midst of his people in this wilderness. Here is the complete gathering of the people of Jerusalem and Judah with Jehoshaphat’s military and the Levites, all present in the wilderness. The people had their little ones and their children of age, wives and men made up this great company in the wilderness. Jehoshaphat spoke out to all the people, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper. Jehoshaphat began with the word ‘believe.’

Belief is the key to faith, faith is the key to grace, and grace is the key to heaven’s glory and the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: (Colossians 1:13) They must continue in faith; they must believe that God is able to deliver them from this mighty host. Their eyes had been opened by the Spirit of God through His prophet. They now believed in the might, in the majesty, and in the power of God.

God Will Cause to See — Jahaziel

In the New Testament we have another example of God causing to see, but here in the Gospel of John it is with one individual. In Chapter 9, verse 3 in the Gospel of John, there was man who was born blind, Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. This man was born blind, but this was the purpose of God; notice the word, ‘works’ for there was more than one work performed upon this man, and within this man. God had prepared this man, this day, and this location for the divine meeting of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Christ would pass by and the works of God would be manifested in this man who had been born blind. All these years, months and days he waited not knowing that one day the Son of God would pass by, yet, God the Father had marked this divine day on His divine calendar, He knew the exact time and place. In verse 3, we have the works (plural) of God. Not only would this man receive physical sight by the power of God in Jesus Christ, but the Lord would also give him an inner witness of Himself, and give the man a new heart in which he would see the face of God.

Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. (John 9:3)

(John 9:38)

We see through the result of the works of the Lord Jesus Christ that this man had new sight both outwardly and inwardly. When asked by the Lord Jesus, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? The man who had received his sight asked, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him? The Lord replied, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. The man cried out, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped the Lord Jesus Christ. In these two questions there are two hidden foundational truths of salvation: first — by receiving his natural sight he was able to look upon God: secondly — by receiving his spiritual sight he was able to believe in God. These are the two fundamental aspects of salvation, belief and then worship of the Almighty God. In this wonderful miracle of both natural and spiritual sight (the seen and the unseen), this blind man, who now had sight, was a witness of his own salvation through Jesus Christ. The miracle of sight brought forth the revealing of God, the revealing of God brought forth sight to his heart, and he bowed and worshiped the Lord of glory for this man had seen the face of God.

Belief in Action

Jehoshaphat called the people to see their salvation (in a physical sense) of their enemy, and stressed to them in verse 20, Believe in the LORD your God. The word believe is used two times by the Holy Spirit in this section. One is to reinforce their belief in Jehovah, and the other is in reference to believing His prophets, or we could say, the word of Jehovah. In believing in God they must consider all of God’s promises that were given of Jehovah to Israel. And believing in the prophet they were to believe the prophecy that was given to them by Jahaziel; also, they were to believe in the reassuring words of the prophet and the prophecies that were fulfilled in the past. They had personally received a revelation of God through Jahaziel (God Will Cause to See). This prophecy was unfolding before them. After reminding the people and directing their hearts to the God of all comfort, Jehoshaphat called for the singers. And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever. This is such a wonderful work in the heart by the Holy Spirit in the hearts of the king and the people. This is a victory march before the victory. This is a people and a king confident in their God. The singers go forth singing in the beauty of holiness. They went out before the army, and before the people. The melody and their voices echoed with Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever. Does this phrase sound familiar? It should. Would you like to see after all these years what was in the heart of these people? I will give you an example, Psalm 136. This entire psalm was dedicated to the mercy of God that it truly endures forever. Each of the 26 verses end with his mercy endureth for ever. This Psalm is so impressive that we cannot go on until we read it in it’s entirety. I give you Psalm 136 in it’s entirety and for eternity.

O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. (Psalm 136:1)

O give thanks unto the God of gods: for his mercy endureth for ever. (Psalm 136:2)

And hath redeemed us from our enemies: for his mercy endureth for ever.(Psalm 136:24)

Who giveth food to all flesh: for his mercy endureth for ever. (Psalm 136:25)

O give thanks unto the God of heaven: for his mercy endureth for ever. (Psalm 136:26)

Godhead in Action

In verse 22 of 2 Chronicles, Chapter 20 we read, And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten. Remember that cloud of witnesses, the people of Judah and Jerusalem, the king and his army, and the priests and the Levites that when they began to sing that was the exact time that the Holy Spirit turned the sword of their enemies against themselves. Could it be in Jerusalem that at this exact time the morning sacrifice was being offered up to Jehovah — for His mercy endureth forever. So far we have seen the work of the Holy Spirit of God in the Levite, Jahaziel, in the people of Judah and Jerusalem, in king Jehoshaphat, in his army, in the priests, in the Levites, and the singers. All through this section of Scripture in 2 Chronicles we see the fingerprint of the Spirit of God. We tend to think that the Spirit of God has only come for the New Testament saint, truly, He is the one working in these last days. But we should remember that the spiritual work of the Holy Spirit was first introduced to us in verse 2 in the Book of Genesis. He is the first in the Godhead mentioned in Scripture. Remember that in verse 1 of Genesis, the word, ‘’elohiym’ reveals Godhead; Father, Son and Holy Ghost. In verse 2 of Genesis it is the Spirit of God who is moving over the face of the deep or darkness. Then we see that God speaks and brings forth light out of the darkness. So today, we live in a world of darkness, and it is the Holy Spirit of God introducing the light of God through Jesus Christ to this darkness. He is working in the hearts of men to turn their hearts to Jesus Christ. In His work in the episode with Jehoshaphat He worked in the hearts and minds of ungodly men to turn their own swords on each other. This is a foreshadow of our own time. We have men against men, women against men, children against man, race against race, all turning on each in a convulsive implosion of self destruction. The whole scope of humanity is in complete revolt from within; whether it be nations, or race, or gender, or young, or old; whether it be religions, or nations, or political, all are opposed to each other and to their own selves. Sadly, the only thing unifying them is their sin; and there is no recovery from the depth of their sin for God has given them up. (Romans 1) This world of ours is in it’s last throes (socially/economically/governmentally), in it’s upheaval (geologically), and in it’s enmity and opposition to a holy and righteous God (spiritual revolt).

The View From the Watch Tower

In the days of Jehoshaphat it would be God and God alone who would destroy His enemies and the enemies of Judah. For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another. (2 Chronicles 20:23) And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped. (2 Chronicles 20:24) As the sound of the cymbals rang out through the wilderness of Tekoa the enemies were bathed in their own blood. The children of Israel went to the watch tower, this is the only time in Scripture that this ‘watch tower’ is referred. In the other two mentions in the Book of Isaiah, ‘watchtower’ is one word. In our section in 2 Chronicles the word is divided into two parts, watch and tower. This is the last reference to what they were about to see, I find it interesting that a place of prominence and an exact location is given at this point in Scripture to view the landscape from a higher position. It is like God telling us that He sees all things. We have Judah stating that Jehovah’s mercy endures forever. We have the eyes of the Lord upon us, both with Jehoshaphat’s prayer, and Jahaziel whose name means God Will Cause to See, and now — the watch tower.

Three witnesses of divine sight and guidance. Could we ask for any more? We have divine guidance from God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. On Judah’s part they were praising God, and singing for their hearts were full of praise for God. On the part of their enemy, Jehovah was bathing them in their own blood. It was sword against sword till there was not one left. The three witnesses of divine sight: Jehoshaphat had said, but our eyes are upon thee; Jahaziel whose name means God Will Cause to See was given so that the people of Judah would see the power of God. Next, the watch tower was given so that they could see what God had done. And lastly, the blind man in John, Chapter 9 was given sight so that he might see and testify to the power of God and see the face of God in Jesus Christ and worship!

None Escaped

This was a mighty host, and yet, not one was left alive. The people looked and all they could see was a sea of dead bodies on the earth. From dust they were taken and to dust they would return. The Holy Spirit announced His victory in verse 24, and none escaped. They were open enemies against Jehovah and Judah, they were judged because of their sin and not one was spared. The Holy Spirit declares in Hebrews 2:3, How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; and in Hebrews 12:29 For our God is a consuming fire.

The End of the Age of Grace

We are at the end of the age of grace. The people of this world are rolling like swine in their own sin. They are eating their own vomit like dogs. They are defiling themselves in every way, and are truly children of Adam. They are bathing themselves in their own blood. It will be the sword of the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth who will bring the finality to this madness of rebellious man.

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)

Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. (Hebrews 4:13)

Not one of these Moabites, Ammonites, or the children of mount Seir escaped from the edge of the sword. Not one in the age of grace who has rejected God’s Christ, God’s message of grace, God’s word of truth and grace, and God’s love for His Son will escape God’s wrath and judgment.

But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. (Matthew 12:36)

For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. (Matthew 12:37)

Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee. (Matthew 12:38)

But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: (Matthew 12:39)

For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. (Matthew 12:40)

The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here. (Matthew 12:41)

The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here. (Matthew 12:42)

When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. (Matthew 12:43)

Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. (Matthew 12:44)

Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation. (Matthew 12:45)

Look around and open your eyes: Satan has blinded this world, and especially this wicked generation of our present age. The world was given a Savior, and they cast Him out of the world. As the gospel was preached man repented of their sins, and came to know the glory of God’s Christ in His salvation. The Spirit of God came to clean and to sweep the house, but man has refused and now the wickedness of Satan has brought forth the night, and the darkness of this world. As we fall further into this darkness, the words recorded and documented in Revelation 9:4 thru 6, will become reality.

And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads. (Revelation 9:4)

And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man. (Revelation 9:5)

And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them. (Revelation 9:6)

The words of Revelation 9 will give us over to the events that are recorded in Revelation 6:16 and 17.

And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; (Revelation 6:15)

And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: (Revelation 6:16)

For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand? (Revelation 6:17)

And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,(Revelation 14:9)

The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:(Revelation 14:10)

And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. (Revelation 14:11)

And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth. (Revelation 16:1)

And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, (Revelation 16:10)

And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds. (Revelation 16:11)

These verses from the Book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ paint a dark picture of man in the end time. The men depicted in these verses will not escape the judgment of God (there will not be one left as with the Moabites). Read Chapter 16 in it’s entirety. You will see the seeds that are being sown today are going to bring forth fruit in the time of tribulation. The world of Revelation 16 will be upon them sooner than they think. They have brazenly and proudly declared themselves the enemies of God. They have cast out His word; consequently, having rejected His word their nations are being powered by the sin of their own hands.

But I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings, saith the LORD: and I will kindle a fire in the forest thereof, and it shall devour all things round about it. (Jeremiah 21:14)

Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him. (Isaiah 3:11)

Yet ye have not hearkened unto me, saith the LORD; that ye might provoke me to anger with the works of your hands to your own hurt. (Jeremiah 25:7)

Remember . . . man measures by time, God measure by sin in the kingdoms of men, and not one escaped. Amen.
