Hebrews 3:2 – He is Faithful

Hebrews 3:2

He is Faithful

Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house. (Hebrews 3:2)

Faithfulness is the theme of this verse. It is the faithfulness of Christ brought forth as a superior faithfulness then even Moses, even though Moses was faithful in all his house. We have, here, the Son of God who was appointed to be all faithfulness. And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. (Revelation 19:11) As we look at ‘faith’ as a tangible part of our salvation, we should examine our faith that came from heaven’s glory. In Revelation 19:11 we have the Faithful and True witness of God in the faithfulness of the Lord Jesus Christ. Our faith comes from He who is Faithful. He is the fulness of faithfulness, for faithfulness is part of His Being. We walk by faith, but that is faith of and by the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ, who is Faithful. The wonder of God’s grace is that in verse 2, He brings man (in Moses) into His own faithfulness. And Moses is seen as a faithful servant of God by the faith of Him who called Him, the Lord Jesus Christ. We see the Lord Jesus as the Priest of the Most High God, and the Faithful and True witness of God walking amongst the Church in Revelation 3:14. And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;. (Revelation 3:14) In this verse the Lord Jesus is presenting Himself as the Faithful and True witness of God. He also presents Himself as the beginning of the creation of God, and you will see this in verse 4 of Hebrews Chapter 3 , but for now, we will concentrate on His faithfulness. Although the church of the Laodiceans is mentioned, His faithfulness and His true witness has been to the whole Church throughout Church history, as the truth is in Jesus. (Ephesians 4:21) In the span of Church history, we have come to a point in 2015 that Christ, once again, through the Spirit of God presents Himself to us as the Faithful and True witness. All our judgments and spiritual life need to be in harmony with His faithfulness and His witness as God the Son. We often think that the ministry of the Lord Jesus began at His baptism, on an earthly level among men it was so, but before there was a world and before there was time, and before one article or molecule was cast into the blackness of space, Christ was the Minister and Apostle of God. He was in the midst of the Godhead as They counseled together, and put forth a creation, and a plan of redemption that would take place by the creative power of the Word spoken by Jesus Christ. He became the Apostle and Minister of the covenant the moment He spoke the first words of creation. And He has been Faithful throughout the entire plan that God put forth, and will continue to be Faithful throughout all eternity.

We live in an era where the world has a church of symbolism, of traditionalism, and of ritualism. This world church is rich and increased with goods. When the scriptures declare, let this mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, it is for us to take the position and humility of Jesus Christ, and not the wealth of the world. The Laodiceans in Revelation 3:14 were not found faithful. They had denied the Lord of glory and had not followed after truth. That is why the Lord Jesus announced Himself as the Faithful and True witness of God. The religion of Babylon does not accept the man Christ Jesus, or the Son of God, Christ Jesus. They have developed a fantastical Christ who demands nothing of them, and desires nothing from them. This religion of Babylon is more suitable to a gospel of superstition and fantasy then the reality that man must deal with his sin before an Almighty God.

In verse 1, God took us to the mountain and from that mountain He wants us as holy brethren to discern and use spiritual judgment throughout this Chapter. He, the Spirit of God therefore, presents to us His Faithful and True witness in all things, the Son of God the Lord Jesus Christ. We see the word appointed in verse 2, He was appointed by the Father, He was appointed to be the divine witness. The word appointed could also be in reference ‘to made,’ and there are many verses in the Scriptures given by the Holy Ghost to confirm this thought. In Chapter 2, verse 7, he is made like unto his brethren. In Hebrews 10:5, but a body hast thou prepared (or made) me. In Galatians 4:4 God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law. He was made in the likeness of sinful flesh (or man); yet, apart from sin. This all surrounds Him as the Faithful witness of God. And in that witness for God the Father, He is the faithful witness to His beloved Bride, His divine spiritual Body, the true Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.

In the faithfulness of His witness, He has given to us a Comforter, and a Teacher in the Holy Spirit of God. He has not left us alone in the world of evil. The Spirit of God ministers to us each and every moment of our lives because Jesus Christ is the Faithful witness. As Moses was brought forth as a faithful witness in the Old Testament, we can see Christ presented as the Son of man and a faithful witness in the New Testament. In the mouth of two or three witnesses every word is established. In the Book of Deuteronomy, God is speaking through His servant Moses, and Moses was moved by the Spirit of God. Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations; (Deuteronomy 7:9) Moses, through the Spirit of God, declared God’s faithfulness and this was in relationship to His covenants, to His commandments, (and to put it out of the reach of our understanding) to a thousand generations. In verse 7 of Chapter 3 of Hebrews, Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,. We have a large section of Deuteronomy given directly by the Spirit of God. In Chapter 5, verse 1 of Deuteronomy we have the name of Moses mentioned, after verse 1 the Holy Spirit of God puts Moses in the background. Although Moses is speaking, he is speaking by the Spirit of God. The name of Moses is not mentioned again until verse 1 of Chapter 27. Our verse, therefore, in Hebrews Chapter 3 verse 7 is a reference not only to the Book of Hebrews, but also a reference to the total canon of Scripture for it is truly the voice of Jesus that is the Spirit of truth. Reading those chapters in Deuteronomy one can feel the presence of the Spirit of God feeding Moses the very words of God. If Moses, therefore, was moved of the Spirit of God he was moved according to his faithfulness to God. Moses, as a servant, was faithful in all his house.

The voice of the Spirit brings forth the unsearchable riches of Christ, for in the voice of the Spirit of God we see the demand on the people of Israel in the days of Moses. It is the Spirit of God who is dealing with Old Testament history in the New Testament light of Hebrews Chapter 3. Again I say, the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. (Revelation 19:10) And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

In Deuteronomy, Chapter 7 verse 9, it is the Spirit of Christ speaking through Moses. Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. (1 Peter 1:11) Now if you desire to take a break, read Deuteronomy Chapter 5 through 26.

In examining the text that we have just read (Deuteronomy 5-26) one can only conclude that it was the Spirit of Christ speaking unto Israel through Moses. The Spirit of Christ is only mentioned twice in the Scriptures: 1 Peter 1:11, and Romans 8:9. In (1 Peter 1:11) it is dealing with the word spoken or given by the Spirit of Christ in the Old Testament. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his., (Romans 8:9) In Romans 8:9 we have a distinct mention of the Spirit of Christ in relationship to the New Testament saint. In both cases of 1 Peter and Romans 8, it is the Spirit of Christ ministering through the Word of God. We should remember that not only the Living Word of God is in heaven (the Lord Jesus Christ), but the written word of God is settled in heaven. LAMED. For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. (Psalm 119:89) In all three of these verses notice the repetition of the number 1, the number 9 and the number 8. In Psalm 119, verse 89 we have the heading ‘LAMED.’ Psalm 119 is arranged by the Hebrews alphabet. LAMED happens to be the 12th letter, reading right to left. This is how the Hebrew alphabet is read. It is not only the 12th  letter, but it is the tallest letter, and considered by most as the center of the Hebrew alphabet. Although numerically it is not the center, it is still considered the center of the alphabet. Just a thought — the New Testament is smaller than the Old Testament; yet, in a spiritual sense we can consider the division between the Old and New as the center of our Bible. Even though, numerically it is not the center, but the Spirit of God bridges the Old Testament with the light of the New Testament. This 12th  letter (LAMED) is not only the tallest letter, but it resembles the shepherd’s crook or staff. The number 12 speaks of the 12 tribes of Israel, and the crook or staff speaks of the Great Shepherd of Israel. And the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ sees in our Lord and in our Savior the Good Shepherd, and the Faithful and True witness of God.

Although Israel is under a different covenant, and has a prophetic future when she will receive her King of kings, and Lord of lords as an earthly people, those of us in the Church age do not come into her promises. We have a heavenly calling, and we are a heavenly people. We belong to the heavenly Jerusalem which is above. Both the future redemption of Israel as an earthly nation, and our redemption as a holy people in the Body of Christ are both brought together by the two covenants; for both covenants are established in the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. In the mention of Moses in verse 2 we see the Spirit of God trying to stimulate the nation of Israel to believe in the True Faithful witness which is Christ. He is the True and Faithful witness of His house, whose house are we. He is still a faithful shepherd over the Lord’s vineyard, which is Israel. Israel is His earthly chosen nation. He cries unto her that she would receive her Messiah and King. Moses, therefore, is brought into the picture, and the Spirit of God draws a comparison between Moses and the man Christ Jesus, who is the True and Faithful witness of God.

In the Gospel of John, Moses is mentioned in 12 verses. The first mention is John 1:17, For the law was given by Moses, [but] grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. John gives us a division between law and grace; one established in Moses, the other established in the Lord Jesus Christ. I find a comparison of this truth in Hebrews 3:2

I also find that it is of the Spirit of God to mention Moses in 12 verses in this Gospel. Moses is the representative of the law, in fact, the Jews refer to Moses as giving them the law. And it is the law of Moses that they built their foundation on in the days of the Lord Jesus. I also find it interesting since we are dealing with the Faithful witness of God that although Moses is mentioned as a symbol of the law, the word ‘faith’ is not mentioned one time in the Gospel of John. The only reference is be not faithless. Although faith is not mentioned, the backbone of the Gospel of John is the word ‘believe,’ ‘believed,’ ‘believeth,’ ‘believing,’ and to confirm this we read Chapter 20, verses 29 – 31.

Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. (John 20:27)

And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. (John 20:28)

Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. (John 20:29)

And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: (John 20:30)

But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. (John 20:31)

Let’s return to Hebrews Chapter 3. . . remember that we began on the mountain, the mountain of faith in verse 1. We are the holy brethren, and we have a heavenly calling, as we go through this chapter we begin to see unbelief. The chapter ends with the word ‘unbelief,’ this is sad indeed for the soul to contemplate. When the Lord was speaking to the Pharisees in the Gospel of John, He reminded them of their pride in the law of Moses. They were proud, but did not obey. For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. (John 5:46) But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words? (John 5:47)

Consider the Spirit of God writing to both the Hebrew believers in Christ, and to the Hebrews as a nation. Paul in Romans gives us a similar feeling of the Holy Spirit in Romans 8. We have the believers in the Lord Jesus Christ walking in the Spirit and not in the flesh. Then we have the turmoil of the soul of the Apostle brought forth for the Israel of God in Romans 9. It was Paul’s wish that all Israel would be saved. This was based on verses 4 and 5.

Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises; (Romans 9:4)

Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen. (Romans 9:4)

Israel, under Moses, had received the law, but prior to the law they also had received the promises given by God to Abraham, and the covenants that God made with Abraham. But, Israel as a whole, was still in unbelief as they are today. But God’s mercy will prevail. In Psalm 44 we see a people searching for the God of their fathers. They know that they are cast down, but have not come to the cruel reality that they had rejected their Messiah and King. Remember that in His rejection, He even told the heathen despot (Pilate) that He was born to be the King of Israel; however, Israel would not receive Him. In Hebrews 3:2, we have the Lord who was Faithful to God the Father as a Son, and Moses who was faithful as a servant. The man Moses was God’s messenger and leader to Israel. Through God’s divine authority Moses stood up against Pharaoh who was a symbol of Satan, and all the occult of that time.

Speak, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon that lieth in the midst of his rivers, which hath said, My river is mine own, and I have made it for myself. (Ezekiel 29:3)

To whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? yet shalt thou be brought down with the trees of Eden unto the nether parts of the earth: thou shalt lie in the midst of the uncircumcised with them that be slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord GOD. (Ezekiel 31:18)

For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth. (Romans 9:17)

The two magicians (Jannes and Jambres) were not only magicians but priests of the occult. (2 Timothy 3:8, 9)

When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. (Exodus 7:9)

And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent. (Exodus 7:10)

Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments. (Exodus 7:11)

For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron’s rod swallowed up their rods. (Exodus 7:12)

And he hardened Pharaoh’s heart, that he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said. (Exodus 7:13)

Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. (2 Timothy 3:8)

But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was. (2 Timothy 3:9)

These two men represented all the gods of Egypt. Although they are described as sorcerers and magicians, they were also priests of the occult. If you would think with the power of the Spirit of God, you would see that each one of the plagues that both Moses and Aaron enacted were a direct assault against the gods of Egypt, and began with a direct assault against Pharaoh. The rod being made into a serpent and then taking the serpent by the tail, turning it back into a rod; the rod, a symbol of the divine judgment and control over the works of Satan. In Moses we see a representative of God in the conflict with world, the flesh and the devil. In reference to Hebrews 3:2, we have the faithfulness of Christ as greater than the faithfulness of Moses. For on the cross of Calvary, the Lord Jesus took upon Him the sin of the world; thereby, defeating the world and it’s sin. On the cross He was there in the likeness of sinful flesh, and therefore, defeated sin in the flesh. In His death on the cross, and through the three hours of darkness, He defeated death and the devil and all his works. Christ went into death to have the victory over death for all those who would believe in Him; therefore, if you belong to Jesus Christ, the Son of God, He has defeated the world, the flesh, and the devil for you. Praise God!

In Moses we see that he rejected the world when he refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; (Hebrews 11:24) In many ways Moses is a type or shadow of the Lord Jesus Christ. Moses rejected the world of his day, and the world of his day rejected him. When he came to his own, they also rejected him. It was only through divine sovereignty and majesty that Moses was placed by God over the people of Israel. We, as the children of God, are also brought into this type of Moses; for when we are saved, we reject the world, and in return the world rejects us. A simple conclusion for the child of God, or those who profess the Lord Jesus Christ, if your faith agrees with the world then it is not the faith of Jesus Christ. If your faith is in opposition to the world then, rest assured, you know the man on the cross, Christ Jesus our Lord

Looking at the miracles of God through the actions of Moses and Aaron, we see the battle between heaven and earth. As Moses being the representative of God, and the devil being represented by Pharaoh and his entourage as the world, the flesh, and the occult of Egypt. The message to Pharaoh from the God of heaven was, Let my people go. That message has not changed throughout history, although today we live in a different dispensation by the blood of Christ we are God’s people, and the world works day and night to put us back into its bondage, but the Holy Spirit given of the Lord Jesus continually resounds with the same words, Let my people go. Moses after the defeat of Pharaoh and the occult gathered the people of Israel under the blood of the lamb. The last judgment against Egypt was about to fall with the angel of death. As the angel of death moved throughout the whole land of Egypt, the cries and wailing of death were heard by all, even in the house of Pharaoh. It was at this point that God moved in the heart of Pharaoh to let Moses lead the people of Israel out of the land of Egypt. One remembers the sequel well, by the blood of the lamb Moses led them to the Red Sea. When it seemed that Pharaoh would destroy them God opened the Sea and His people went across on dry ground. To put an exclamation point and proof of the great miracles of God, He allowed Pharaoh to pursue the people of Israel led by Moses into the Red Sea. When Pharaoh and all his hosts were in the hands of God, God then reversed the walls of water so that Pharaoh and his hosts drowned in the midst of the Red Sea. The mighty hand of Pharaoh was no more.* In this destruction we see a type of the destruction of the devil, Pharaoh, being that type. For I have caused my terror in the land of the living: and he shall be laid in the midst of the uncircumcised with them that are slain with the sword, even Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord GOD. (Ezekiel 32:32) To whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? yet shalt thou be brought down with the trees of Eden unto the nether parts of the earth: thou shalt lie in the midst of the uncircumcised with them that be slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord GOD. (Ezekiel 31:18) Notice how the Spirit of God describes the character of Pharaoh, even though there were many Pharaoh’s in Egypt, and in Ezekiel it is the last mention of Pharaoh, we receive the description of the Holy Spirit concerning all Pharaoh’s (for they all had the same heart). Remember that in Romans 9, God raised up Pharaoh to show the world God’s power through the destruction of Pharaoh. According to the verses that we have referenced they can only lead you to Revelation 20:10. And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. Many times the world speaks out against the Word of God, they doubt it’s accuracy when in fact it is of divine origin, and breathed to man by the mouth of God. The Word of God has a divine spirit that is called the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is the third Person of the Godhead. And He has been directing and giving the Word of God to man since Moses picked up the pen of God. If we look at Ezekiel 32:32 we see the last mention of Pharaoh as a type of Satan, and the judgment upon him, being proved by Ezekiel 31:18. In Ezekiel Chapter 32:32 we have the last mention of Pharaoh (I know that I am repeating, but it is for clarity), now the Holy Spirit through all the centuries leads us to the last mention of the devil in the Book of the Revelation (20:10). Notice, it is Satan’s destruction, he is cast into the lake of fire with the false prophet and the beast, and this is the last mention of Satan in our Bible, in the last book in the canon of Scripture. As the Spirit of God weaves God’s plan through time, His unquestionable Word not only gives us His authorship, but we see His enduring hovering and preserving power over the Word of God. The Holy Spirit grows tired of men trying to delete and dilute the Word of God. Man uses all types of arguments and his argument first began in the Garden of Eden after the fall, and this has continued into our present age. Man cannot understand how God through His Spirit can move through the centuries as the unquestionable keeper and preserver of His Word in a unblemished form. Remember the lamb, it was put aside for sacrifice. It could not have a blemish, not any mark that detracted from it’s purity. For God would only accept that sacrifice on the ground of purity. Remember the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world, His beloved SON? God demanded in His own Son — purity. For only that purity could satisfy the righteous claims of God against man; therefore, the Lord Jesus was the pure sacrifice. According to Scripture, God the Holy Spirit has purified the Word of God seven (7) times in His furnace of holy truth, and has preserved and produced a Bible that is without blemish, and pure. Man will never understand this, but those who have the Spirit of God in their heart witnessing His presence both understand and rejoice in His divine preservation of the written Word of God. Remember, it was the old Serpent, the devil, in the Garden who first cast doubt on the Word of God. And his ministers have continued casting forth that same doubt throughout the history of the world. From the Garden to this present day Satan has been casting doubt on the Deity, the Holiness, the Righteousness, and the Sovereignty of God. Peter in his first epistle wants us to realize the deception of Satan.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: (1 Peter 5:8)

Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. (1 Peter 5:9)

But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. (1 Peter 5:10)

To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. (1 Peter 5:11)

In these verses we have the sobering effect of the Word of God. The Holy Spirit wants us, as the children of God, to be aware of our adversary, the devil. The Spirit of God, then, reaffirms our faith that we should be stedfast in our faith, and God will preserve us, and keep us, and establish us in His mighty power; and for that we give Him the glory.

We find that the true Christian (he or she) is in a war zone. Evil is all around us, and because the Spirit of God dwells within us we are not compatible with the world, the flesh, and the devil. This is the battle that is being brought before us in Hebrews Chapter 3. It is the battle of faith against faithlessness, belief against unbelief, and the result of both. God begins with the faithfulness and the battle of the man Moses. When Moses stood upon the other side of the Red Sea, and began to lead the children of Israel into the wilderness there was a mixed multitude among them. This mixed multitude was comprised of people from the various nations that Pharaoh had conquered and put under the authority and symbol of the ankh; which was a symbol of the occult and gave a false divine authority even to the point of life and death to Pharaoh. This mixed multitude (who were under the bondage of Pharaoh) came out of Egypt with the children of Israel.

And a mixed multitude went up also with them; and flocks, and herds, even very much cattle. (Exodus 12:38)

And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat? (Numbers 11:4)

Moses endured the murmuring of both the mixed multitude and the people of Israel. Egypt was still a very important part of their being, they desired the things of Egypt in the wilderness. It became such an issue that God sent quail, and as they began to eat the quail and the flesh was in their teeth God judged them and many died. This shows us the tragedy of a mixed multitude. It was quite evident to God and His servant Moses that Egypt and the children of Israel could no longer mix, and God would have to judge them many times in the wilderness for their unbelief. Consider that this judgment began almost immediately after they had left Egypt. In Hebrews 3, therefore, we have faith and unbelief; and those that enter into the glories of God through Jesus Christ have belief which brings forth faith. They that perished in the wilderness — perished because of unbelief for they had not faith. In the Church age, we have the same result, almost immediately after the birth of the Church the world as a mixed multitude came into the Church. And belief became mingled with unbelief, and faith mingled with faithlessness; this was the mixed multitude murmuring about the divine things of God. (Read the Book of Jude) The first attack from the mixed multitude was against the remembrance of the Lord.

And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake [it], and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. (Luke 22:19)

And when he had given thanks, he brake [it], and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. (1 Corinthians 11:24)

After the same manner also [he took] the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink [it], in remembrance of me. (1 Corinthians 11:25)

Paul writing to the Corinthians reminded them that this remembrance was only for the children of God, they were allowing unbelievers and sacrifices from the occult to overshadow this divine remembrance; to clarify, the Lord Jesus gave the Church only one ordinance, that was to remember Him with both bread and wine. This was to show forth His death until He comes. The murmurers or the world that came into the Church through deceptiveness have been attacking this ordinance since the beginning of the Church age. In our day it is very hard to find a true Spirit led remembrance service, for it has been regulated, or curtailed, or perverted, or completely done away with by the mixed multitude. The result of their murmuring and the removal of the remembrance service of the Lord Jesus Christ has led to a false Christianity without faith, and without Jesus Christ. He never asked us to remember His birth, but the mixed multitude wants us to celebrate His birth to the point of bringing pagan symbols or gods into the Church of the Living God. These symbols such as ever-green trees (the modern Christmas tree) go all the way back to the occult in Babylon. This is what the mixed multitude has brought in to the Church of God. This has developed into a love gospel that has clouded the hearts and souls of many in unbelief. The murmuring has brought about the signs you see welcoming more mixed multitudes, ‘Come Worship with Us,’ and yet they know not who or what they worship. (John 4:21-24)

Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. (John 4:21)

Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. (John 4:22)

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. (John 4:23)

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. (John 4:24)

The Lord Jesus gives us the formula of true worship. Christ must be the center of all our affections, and we worship Him through the Holy Ghost who dwells in us. You cannot bring the flesh into the presence of God to worship Him. He must be worshiped in Spirit and in Truth, there is no other worship, and the mixed multitude does not understand this divine truth. The situation that we have today, 2015, has developed over 2000 years. It would be foolish to think one could bring back the state and condition of the infancy of the Church when all was in common and they were led by the Spirit of God, and Christ Jesus was the center of all their affections. In all things He might have the preeminence has become changed to — in all things man and the clergy should have the preeminence. This is a tragedy and truly must sadden the hearts of all true believers of the Lord Jesus Christ. As the mixed multitude plagues the Church today, those who love the Lord Jesus must listen for the knock on the door and hear the still small voice of our beloved Savior. Open the door and let Him in, and sup with Him, and He will sup with you. Truly we can have too many negative thoughts, our thought should be based on the truth found in the Scriptures. To understand Chapter 3 of the Book of Hebrews, we must remember that it began with the holy brethren with a heavenly calling, and their center is the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus. Chapter 3, however, because of the mixed multitude ends with unbelief, and the very last word in this chapter is ‘unbelief.’ So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief. (Hebrews 3:19)

The Holy Spirit of God uses the context of Chapter 3 of Hebrews to bring out the unbelief that was among the children of Israel as they wandered in the wilderness. They are an example of unbelief because of the mixed multitude, and their own unbelief. The children of God born of the Spirit of God have always been in opposition to the world; for example, we have Cain who was of the world and Abel who was the seed of promise and a child of God. Cain wanted dominion over his brother and when he could not achieve this dominion, and thereby pervert Abel’s righteous soul, Cain diabolically waited. And while Abel was worshiping God in the field with the sacrifice of his unblemished lamb upon the altar that he had built for God, and was in the process of offering up his sacrifice to God it was than that Cain trust his spear through the side of Abel; a foreshadow of the centurion’s spear of Rome that was thrust through the side of the Lamb of God on the cross of Calvary. (Matthew 23:35; Luke 11:51; Hebrews 11:4; Hebrews 12:24) The world does not want us to worship in Spirit and in Truth. They will try to dilute, deceive, and destroy the very faith that we hold dear. Of course, through the divine hand of God upon the Bible we know that God will always have a witness for Him in the divine seed. For we are told that even today the blood of Abel cries out to expose the world for what it really is — man lost and devoured in his sin. We wrestle not against flesh and blood, we wrestle and war against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. (Ephesians 6:10)

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (Ephesians 6:11)

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (Ephesians 6:12)

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. (Ephesians 6:13)

Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; (Ephesians 6:14)

And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; (Ephesians 6:15)

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. (Ephesians 6:16)

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: (Ephesians 6:17)

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; (Ephesians 6:18)

And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, (Ephesians 6:19)

Through the list of the weapons that God has given us, we fight against the spirit of unbelief in a dark and evil world. As we are called by meekness and in the symbol of lambs, our warfare is not carnal but spiritual. God gives us a precise list of weapons found in Chapter 6 of Ephesians. We are to appropriate each one of these weapons through the Spirit of God. Remember, the child of God is no longer of this world although in it. We are heavenly citizens, therefore, we are moved according to the Holy and heavenly will of God. We take these weapons as line upon line, and precept upon precept, with all holy prayer to defeat the works of darkness. Though spiritual wickedness be all around us as in the days of Elijah, God will send the fire of His Spirit into our heart to fight against, and bring about the demise of unbelief. We follow after Christ Jesus who is Faithful and all His house, whose house are we, the holy brethren of God with a heavenly calling. Amen.

While you wait for the next part of this Chapter 3, read it over and over till you are very familiar with each verse. Hope to see you soon, in Christ. MH.
