Behold the Man
Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man! (John 19:5)
What is the connection of the crown of thorns, and the purple robe and Behold the man!?The paramount difference is in the words, Behold the man! Six (6) times these words are documented in Scripture, five (5) times it is found in the Old Testament, and only ONCE in the New Testament. Also, the Law of First Mention comes into play through all six mentions: (Genesis 3:22; Judges 13:10; 1st Samuel 9:17; Ezekiel 9:11; Zechariah 6:12 and the gospel of John 19:5)
1 Behold, the man. And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: (Genesis 3:22) This is the man, (Adam) the father of mankind, who sinned in disobedience to God and to the Law of Sin and Death, and because of his rebellion was separated from everlasting life. God the Holy Spirit desires that ALL of mankind should Behold, the man, and see in him why all mankind dies; Behold, the man, and see what mankind truly is a rebel draped with the skins of death.
2 Behold, the man. And the woman made haste, and ran, and shewed her husband, and said unto him, Behold, the man hath appeared unto me, that came unto me the [other] day. (Judges 13:10) This was the angel of the LORD also called the angel of God who said that His name was secret. Behold, the man . . . without a name, with the countenance of an angel of God, very terrible, and revealing His power to supernaturally bring for a man of the earth to serve His purposes.
3 Behold, the man. And when Samuel saw Saul, the LORD said unto him, Behold the man whom I spake to thee of! this same shall reign over my people. (1st Samuel 9:17) This was the man chosen by God to fulfill the wishes of a rebellious nation desiring a king of the earth to lead them instead of their Lord God, King of Israel. Behold, the man is the one chosen by man to serve man while he enslaves man. This is what mankind desires, a man like himself.
4 Behold, the man. And, behold, the man clothed with linen, which [had] the inkhorn by his side, reported the matter, saying, I have done as thou hast commanded me. (Ezekiel 9:11) This is the Writer, the Reporter, obedient through His actions, and truthful in His words, and faithful to execute judgment beginning at His sanctuary. (Ezekiel 9:6) This is the Lord Jesus Christ then, and now, and soon to be fulfilled. Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. (Hebrews 10:7) For the time [is come] that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if [it] first [begin] at us, what shall the end [be] of them that obey not the gospel of God? (1st Peter 4:17) For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. (John 12:49) And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak. (John 12:50) Behold, the man clothed with linen, in all purity and perfection performing the will of God against those who disobey God’s word and will.
5 Behold, the man. And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name [is] The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD: (Zechariah 6:12) This Man is named The BRANCH. Here He is The Branch of prophecy . . . . he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD.
Side Note: There are three known branches in God’s realm: the branch of Kingship, the branch of Priesthood, and the branch of Prophecy. This branch is capitalized as Branch, the BRANCH, and The BRANCH three (3) times in Scripture. CLICK HERE to follow more about The Branch.
The BRANCH of KINGSHIP
•Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. (Jeremiah 23:5)
The BRANCH of PRIESTHOOD
• Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they [are] men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH. (Zechariah 3:8)
The BRANCH of PROPHECY
• And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name [is] The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD: (Zechariah 6:12) ♦ End of Side Note: There are three known branches in God’s realm.
6 Behold, the man. Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And [Pilate] saith unto them, Behold the man! (John 19:5) In the Old Testament we have seen Behold the man first as Adam. The Holy Spirit of God commands us to actually look and to see what Adam was and what Adam became. Behold the man. Then we see another man in Behold the man, this second documentation is to reveal that this Man is the Man from heaven, the second man, supernaturally sent to guide man to His purposes. The first man [is] of the earth, earthy: the second man [is] the Lord from heaven.(1st Corinthians 15:47) And in the third documentation of Behold the man we have the counterfeit king (Saul) after the hearts of the people in through rejection of their True King. The fourth documentation (four is the Earth number) of Behold the man discloses the Man from heaven in judgment against His people and nation for their rejection of their God. And in the fifth mention we are told to Behold the man who will be the BRANCH from God offering peace and prosperity to His people, and also in this fifth documentation God also offers grace to His nation Israel. God’s perfect order unfolds again even in how this phrase Behold the man coincides with His spiritual numbers.
Through the Old Testament God lays out and prepares mankind for the New Testament. Sin and man’s evil imaginations are presented to man through the Old Testament and then through the New Testament we have the answer and solution to man’s sin in Behold the man. Even in the address of 19:5 we have the number 1 (Godhead), 9 (judgment) and 5 (grace). John 19:5 is the summation Behold the man through the Old Testament.
