The Word
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
THE WORD = THE CREATOR
THE WORD = THE SON OF THE FATHER’S LOVE

“THE WORD”
All of us speak our first word, and as we grow our vocabulary grows; yet, with all our words we cannot speak a tangible article into existence from nothingness. We are bound by the Almighty God, the words of our vocabulary are for communication, and not for worlds or creation; therefore, God communicates to us through words. And where have these words come from? Was there a pure language given to Adam of God before the fall? The purity of word and thought between God and man, the Living Word giving His pure language to man, and man responding with pure speech to the Almighty God. For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the LORD, to serve him with one consent. (Zephaniah 3:9) I insert this verse from Zephaniah so that you will understand that there is a pure language of God, and although we have corrupted it He will restore it one day to His people, and they will speak the pure words of God.
Consider the language of God at the creation of Adam: a man walking with his Creator in the cool of the day, no sin to deceive or to divide thoughts, only the words of truth. (John 17:17) When sin came in it was brought in by one man into the world, and that man’s name was Adam. This changed everything. The thoughts of man now became corrupt by sin. His speech and his words would become the words of a liar, and the voice of a murderer; so that Cain would respond to God with the words, ‘Am I my brother’s keeper?’ When in fact, he was his brother’s murderer. There was no compassion in his voice, there was no love, no remorse, no voice of repentance; these are the words of a fallen man walking in the ways of his father Adam. In the eternity of God, however, there is still a pure language, still spoken by angels and the Almighty God. This language exists and is anchored in eternity, and this pure language still reigns above all the known languages of the world and beyond. For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the LORD, to serve him with one consent. (Zephaniah 3:9)
In the day of grace the heart of every believer is made one with Christ. The Holy Spirit dwells within the heart and soul, and through the written word of God returns the true language of God to the believer. This language is not audible, but led by the Spirit and spoken to the heart. It is the language of heaven in purity come down to enrich the soul, and to guide the child of God through an evil world. It is Christ who upholds all things by the word of His power; and that power and intelligence is open for each and every one who is bought with the blood of Christ. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. (John 17:17) The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. (Psalm 12:6) Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it. (Psalm 119:140)
The four gospels present to us the recorded words of the Lord Jesus Christ, the pure words from the pure Word. In each gospel we have the first recorded words spoken by Christ. These words are not chronological; however, the Holy Spirit of God presents to us a divine thought of introduction to the Son of God. These are divine words spoken by the Lord Jesus Christ from God to man. This was not man walking with God, but in the fullness of time, it was God walking with man. The difference being the fall of man to sin; so the Holy Spirit records His voice, the voice of the Word, the infallible voice, the pure voice, the true voice, the only voice of eternity for the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us (Emmanuel) and this was to glorify His father on earth. He was truly the Son of the Father’s love.
Righteousness
The first recorded words of the Lord Jesus in Matthew’s gospel is in Chapter 3, verse 15. And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. The first subject of the Holy Spirit is righteousness. This righteousness must be fulfilled. It must be upheld, and it must be delivered unto the world at all costs; therefore, this righteousness must be fulfilled by the Son of God, and it was for this that He was sent into the world. According to Scripture because He has fulfilled all righteousness He will be the righteous one judging the world in righteousness — and no one else.
Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. (Acts 17:31)
Christ will be the judge of the world. Christ Jesus will judge all in perfect righteousness. Only His blood stands between that judgment and His grace. The true faith of Jesus Christ imputes righteousness unto the soul. We are lost in Adam’s estate for Adam left us the inheritance of sin which brought forth death and unrighteousness, but thanks be to God that the pure and righteous Son of God came to die on the cross and redeem us unto God. This is the gospel, and I am not ashamed of this grand truth that Christ came into the world to save sinners in which I am chief.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. (Romans 1:16)
For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. (Romans 1:17)
This glorious gospel is revealed by the eternal Word from faith to faith. This eternal Word is our Savior, Jesus Christ. (Romans 3:22) Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference. The believer has been made a partaker of the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ. This righteousness has been achieved through His death on the cross. He has become our propitiation (our eternal sacrifice). He has imputed righteousness unto us by His glorious faith and grace. In Romans 3:25 we have (faith in his blood) the only mention of ‘faith in his blood’ in the entire Bible, and this is to declare His righteousness for the remission of sins past through the forbearance of God to fulfill the determinate counsels of God from before the foundations of the earth. Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God. To add to this thought of faith in his blood . . . . . .
And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. (Hebrews 9:22)
It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. (Hebrews 9:23)
For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: (Hebrews 9:24)
Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; (Hebrews 9:25)
For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. (Hebrews 9:26)
In the process of Christ redeeming us unto God by His blood, He has imputed unto us the righteousness of God, and we are found in His righteousness before God the Father. The ministry of the Holy Spirit opens this to the child of God, that we may cherish our position before God in Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit continues on in Romans 3:26, To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. This righteousness is that righteousness that was to be fulfilled in Matthew 3:15 is now brought forth by the Son of God, and made available for every repentant soul of man. For we, as the servants of God, declare unto you the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins: that Jesus Christ is the Just one, and the Justifier of them who believe on Jesus Christ.
In the Book of Romans, the word ‘righteousness’ is recorded by the Holy Spirit more than in any other book of the New Testament. Thirty-three (33) verses have the word ‘righteousness,’ making Romans the seed plot for the knowledge of righteousness. Let’s continue on to Romans 8:10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. The Holy Spirit shows us the working of faith — it is the faith of Christ. He is the author and giver of all faith; just as He gives His marvelous grace through faith, and because of faith and grace we find ourselves with the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ. The spirit of life is because of righteousness. We have a transition in our new life, we pass from death to life in Jesus Christ, and in that new life we receive the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ. Sin brought forth death, so now, the spirit of life in Christ fulfills all righteousness for us and in us. And the law that was against us is put away in Christ Jesus. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. (Romans 10:4) We see the law put aside in Jesus Christ, and because the law is put aside the righteousness that is in Christ Jesus is imputed unto us. There is now no condemnation to them who are in Christ Jesus. There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.(Romans 8:1) For Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law and faith in Him brings grace for grace, and grace brings righteousness to every one who believeth. In Romans 10:10 we have the why, and the how of righteousness. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. One must go into the very inner room of the heart where only God and the sinner can come. They must talk through the Spirit of God of reconciliation. The heart must realize the state that it is in, that without the mercy of God there is no hope. One must believe in one’s heart that it is with the heart (not the mouth) that one believes unto righteousness. Only when righteousness is sealed by the Spirit of God, and God alone, is salvation brought forth in Jesus Christ. The heart confesses Christ unto salvation, then, it is with the mouth that the joy of salvation is expressed. At the time of salvation, when God has finalized His work in the heart, the things of the earth are no longer a burden, but now the heart is filled with the joy of knowing the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ. For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. (Romans 14:17) We have completed this section on righteousness. We have seen how the Lord Jesus fulfills all righteousness, and how He has imputed righteousness unto us.
The kingdom of God is at hand –
Let’s go now to the Gospel of Mark and see the first recorded words of Christ. And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. (Mark 1:15) The Almighty God had brought His Son to the fullness of time.
Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world: (Galatians 4:3)
But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, (Galatians 4:4)
To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. (Galatians 4:5)
And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. (Galatians 4:6)
The kingdom of God was, and is, at hand in Jesus Christ. As He is the WORD, He is also the kingdom of God. All has been committed unto Him. He holds the scepter of the kingdom of God. All is determined and judged by Him. Without Him there is no kingdom, and in the dispensation of grace the kingdom of God (being Christ) is inside of every believer. Salvation has translated us into the kingdom of God’s dear Son. For He is in me, and I am in Him — the kingdom of God is within. When the Word spoke these first recorded words in the Gospel of Mark, the Holy Spirit was, and is, pointing us in the direction of the kingdom of Christ. He came to be King, and yet, in Himself was all the power of the kingdom. Whether He is accepted or rejected He is still be the kingdom of God. To the Jew He has brought the kingdom of God in Himself to them; yet, they would not receive Him. To the world He brought the kingdom of God and the Gentiles condemned Him unto death. For refusing the kingdom, both the Jew and the Gentile are held responsible for His crucifixion and death.
Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. (Acts 2:36)
The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go. (Acts 3:13)
But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;(Acts 3:14)
Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. (Acts 4:10)
The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ. (Acts 4 :26)
For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together, (Acts 4 :27)
Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers: (Acts 7:52)
Where does this leave us? Have not all sinned and come short of the glory of God? Do we not understand that it was our condemnation, our guilt, and our penalty that was placed on Him? We are not free from guilt, but even our guilt is covered in the blood of Christ. It is a wonderful honor, privilege, and blessing to be reconciled to God by Jesus Christ, and when we understand the fulness of our reconciliation, we are partakers of the kingdom of God in Jesus Christ. Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. (John 18:36)
In the declaration of the Lord Jesus to Pilate, Christ moves us to a kingdom far greater than the kingdom of Israel. He is speaking of His kingdom without end. The kingdom in the realm of the unknown. The kingdom of His saints. The kingdom of heaven, the kingdom of creation, and the kingdom of the earth. All these belong to His kingdom. In a future date, God has declared for this troubled world in Psalm 2, verse 6 that ‘I will set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.’ He brought the kingdom with Him, and in Him, and for Him — we, as believers, are part of that kingdom. He is the King of the eternal kingdom.

His eyes [were] as a flame of fire, and on his head [were] many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. (Revelation 19:12)
Whatever man tries he cannot take away the Sovereign authority of Jesus Christ. Man will do all kinds of evil out of an evil heart that he received from Adam; and that heart is passed on down to our current age. Man contains the twisted DNA of Adam. Throughout the centuries he has denied the Person of God, so it nothing new today that man desires to live in spiritual darkness. This darkness is the deepest darkness upon the face of the earth. It is deeper than the darkness that can be felt, for it is the complete absence of light; however, Christ is the eternal light. He can destroy the gates of darkness for the darkness cannot abide His light; therefore, we aught to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard lest any time we should let them slip. And how shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation.
Now to the Gospel according to Luke . . . . in Luke’s gospel we have 128 verses before we hear the voice of our Lord; yet, we have the first known recorded words of the Lord Jesus Christ in verse 49 of Chapter 2. And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business? (Luke 2:49)
How is it that ye sought me?
We know from verse 42 that Christ was 12 years of age. The record informs us that the child grew and waxed strong in spirit, and filled with wisdom and the grace of God was upon Him. He taught in the temple, the sign of Israel, the only thing the Jews had to hold onto, and it was just a shadow of Solomon’s Temple. Even though Solomon’s Temple was filled with the glory of God that glory had departed (Ichabod – 1 Samuel 4) and the Temple had been laid waste. The wonderful day when the glory filled Solomon’s Temple had passed.
Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the house. (2 Chronicles 7:1)
And the priests could not enter into the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled the LORD’S house. (2 Chronicles 7:2)
And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the LORD upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshipped, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever. (2 Chronicles 7:3)
All the glory was passed, and the Temple was no more. The temple that now existed in the day of Christ was built by a Gentile, Herod. This was an empty building, and a building of spiritual chaos. It was no longer a temple called by the name of Jehovah, but a building called by the name of a man. It was a place of Jewish ritualism; yet, in the mercy of Jehovah He still had His people like Zechariah, Elizabeth, Simeon, and Anna.
At 12 years of age (the number of the 12 tribes of Israel) with His glory cloaked, He entered in and brought the Father’s name with Him. The glory of God sat talking to the doctors, and all who heard Him were astonished at His teaching. It was God in the midst. For never a boy spoke like this boy, and as He grew into manhood, they would say ‘Never a man spake like this man.’ He bore eternity on His shoulders, and He spoke with the divine lips of truth for in Him was the root and the essence of all truth.
He asked two questions, the first was How is it that ye sought me? They were seeking a lost child, He was seeking a lost nation.
wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?
This was not the business of Joseph. This was about the business of God. Christ had brought the Father’s name from heavens glory to earth’s darkness. He had brought the business of eternity to a creature (man) who existed in a moment of time. Many times they attempted to stop Him in His ministry. Many times they would seek His life before the cross. In all this, He stayed true to His word that He must be about His father’s business. He would not deviate from His divine commission as the Savior of man. As the divine Word incarnate He was seeking that which was lost, and He could declare unto Israel, Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:. (Isaiah 55:6) He was as close as He could get to Israel, sitting in the temple, Jehovah was in their presence, and yet, their eyes were blind to Him. Even at the age of twelve He amazed those around Him; although His glory was cloaked it was felt in their presence, but their eyes remained blind to the child of eternity who was in their midst. For those of us who love the Lord Jesus, those of us who have His calling upon us, we must be about our Father’s business. May the Holy Spirit give us the mind of Christ so that we may minister Him and show forth His glory to man. For all those who love the Lord — we must be about our Father’s business.
Now to the Gospel of our study — the Gospel according to John. We are brought to the Word, this is the eternal Word of God. He is the Living Word, He is the breathing Word, He is the glorified Word, and He is the Omnipotent Word by the word of His power. In Genesis 1:1, we have ‘in the beginning God,’ this is the first revelation that there is a God. When we come to John 1:1, the Holy Spirit brings us to the beginning of the revealed Word of God, not a beginning of a Person, but a beginning of revelation. Just as God was revealed in Genesis 1, the Spirit of God reveals the Lord Jesus Christ as the eternal Word in John 1.
To receive a revelation from God one must be in God’s presence, and be empowered by the Holy Spirit of God. Is it given to the children of God to glorify their Savior, and only by the indwelling Spirit of God can we glorify Him. We have to be prepared by the Holy Spirit to receive and understand the precious words of God. These are holy words from the Word who is God, as He breathed on His disciples He must breathe on us in these last days. We must look on every word of God as He has breathed it into life. As He breathed life into Adam, so let the Holy Spirit breathe the holy word of God into us; that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. (Romans 15:4)
Now to the first recorded words of our Lord in the Gospel of John. Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou? (John 1:38) What seek ye? What seek ye? Three very understandable words for all men.
What seek ye — fame? What seek ye — wealth? What seek ye — power? What seek ye — for all these things do the people of the world seek, but unto you, seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. You want fame? Is not your name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life enough? Or from the Creator of all things the words, ‘Well done good and faithful servant, enter into my rest.’ Or the over comer in the last days of the despotic church, Laodicea (Revelation 3:21) To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. This is the glorious position given to the faithful who stand with God. I look and there was no one to help.
What seek ye — wealth? I am the richest man on earth, I have the unsearchable riches of Christ. Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; (Ephesians 3:8) And God has let me share these riches with man. Be ye reconciled to God. That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: (Ephesians 1:17 ) The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, (Ephesians 1:18)
In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; (Ephesians 1:7)
To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: (Colossians 1:27)
In these verses notice how many times the riches of Christ are mentioned. It is not a light thing that He has brought us into the treasure house. He shares these riches with His children. They are not of silver or gold, but these are the riches of heaven in the brightness of His glory, and the express image of His Person. The Lord wants us to lay up treasure in heaven, and these treasures are the eternal riches of Christ. All these treasures are for His glory, so let us glorify Him in our mortal bodies that the mind that was in Christ would dwell in us.
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: (Philippians 2:5)
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:(Philippians 2:6)
But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: (Philippians 2:7)
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. (Philippians 2:8)
What seek ye — power? For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. (Romans 1:16) This jewel of the gospel is the power of God unto salvation. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. (1 Corinthians 1:18) The natural man thinks that power comes by controlling the minds and hearts of men; when, in fact, true power is in the salvation of man to the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. We have the opportunity with the preaching of the cross and it’s power to keep souls from the fire pits of hell. And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. (Jude 1:23) You want power? Preach the unsearchable riches of Christ in all the eternal power of the Holy Spirit. It is the gospel of Christ unto salvation. The great power of God to deliver the soul by His Son, Jesus Christ.
What seek ye?
And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. (Matthew 28:5)
The angel looked into the distraught and tearful eyes of the women. The heart is opened to the eyes of this visitor, this supernatural angelic, for he sees in these women hearts for Christ. When the angels know that we seek Christ, what a wonderful blessing for this angel out of heaven. He can look, without a word spoken, and know the mind and heart — how we push these angelics aside in unbelief. He declared, ‘I know that ye seek Jesus.’ Should not this be the heart of every man, yet sin has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so that they cannot see or seek the Lord Jesus Christ.
What seek ye? But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Luke 12:31)
What seek ye? For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. (Luke 19:10)
What seek ye? How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only? (John 5:44)
What seek ye? Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come. (John 7:34)
What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come? (John 7:36)
Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come. (John 8:21)
What seek ye? I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.(John 8:37)
What seek ye? That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things. (Acts 15:17)
That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: (Acts 17:27)
What seek ye? For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ’s. (Philippians 2:21)
What seek ye? If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. (Colossians 3:1)
What seek ye? But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6)
What seek ye? And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them. (Revelation 9:6)
‘WHAT SEEK YE’
The Father of lights and perfection has sent His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ to give you eternal life in Him. So seek ye Him who holds the grace of eternity. He is waiting by the well, He is waiting in the Temple, He is waiting in the city of our God, He is waiting at the right hand of God. He is waiting for you. I beg you in Christ’s stead. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech [you] by us: we pray [you] in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. (2 Corinthians 5:20)
In summarizing: in Matthew 3 we have the Christ of God fulfilling all righteousness; in Mark 1:15 He has brought His kingdom in Himself as God’s faithful servant and King; in Luke 2:49 He is in the temple, this is the spiritual side, at twelve years of age He brings the Father’s name to the professed house of God which was rejected in the name of Jewish ritualism; then in John 1:38 we ascend above the clouds into the presence of God the Son. To all men He asks the question, ‘What seek ye?’
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. (John 8:36)
