The Things That God Cannot Do, Part 2

THE THINGS THAT GOD CANNOT DO

Part 2

I suggest that you read part 1 of the article titled The Things That God Cannot Do before you go on to this article of part 2. In Part 1 we summarized that God cannot lie. In this article let us address the next principle.

GOD CANNOT SIN

God is above sin and all that sin entails. God is not the originator nor the creator of sin. He is the thrice Holy God as declared twice in Scripture, once in the Old by seraphim to Isaiah in Isaiah 6:3 and once in Revelation 4:8. His Holiness declared twice, two (2) being the number or symbol of witness. Here God witnesses to His Holiness, the thrice Holy God: the Holiness of God the Father, the Holiness of God the Son, and the Holiness of God the Holy Spirit.

And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, [is] the LORD of hosts: the whole earth [is] full of his glory. (Isaiah 6:3)

And the four beasts had each of them six wings about [him]; and [they were] full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come. (Revelation 4:8)

In the visible manifestation of God in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ it is recorded:

For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: (1Peter 2:21)

Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: (1 Peter 2:22)

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.( 2 Corinthians 5:21)

And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. 1 John 3:5

Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.  (Hebrews 4:14)  For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. (Hebrews 4:15)

GOD CANNOT BE INDIFFERENT TO SIN

Not only can God not lie and God cannot sin, but this leads us into the next principle of things that God cannot do. The next principle we will be looking at is the principle that a Holy God cannot abide sin nor allow sin to go unanswered. It is God’s Holiness that is so far above man’s thoughts, even the thoughts of redeemed man, that the understanding and defining of Holiness leaves one wordless. Mankind (for the most part) has always been unable to accept a holy God. It is far easier to acknowledge a God of mercy and a God of love outside of the holiness of God, but God’s mercy and God’s love never conflict with His Holiness. It is because of His Holiness that He acts against sin. It is because of His Holiness that He cannot allow sin to go unpunished. Here is another external evidence of a supernatural Bible written by the Holy Spirit of God, a mere mortal could never have envisioned nor written about a God acting in holiness, and existing in holiness, and being total holiness; therefore, an immutable Holy God who hates and detests sin is not a fabrication from the mind of sinful man. His Holiness is the very opposite of all that is within unrepentant man, it is diametrically opposed to all that the world holds near and dear.

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.( 1 John 2:15)

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. (1 John 2:16)

Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.  (James 4:4)

God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day (Psalm 7:11)

The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity. (Psalm 5:5)

Howbeit I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending [them], saying, Oh, do not this abominable thing that I hate. (Jeremiah 44:4)

I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies. (Amos 5:21)

Let us continue on with the Holiness of God. Man not only turns from a Holy God, he runs from Him, he rationalizes that God cannot judge sin and will not judge sin, he attempts to change the meaning of sin, he categorizes sin into small minor sins and large major sins, non-punishable sins and criminal sins. He gravitates to religious organizations that soothes his conscience through repetitive prayers and acts of contrition. But God’s Holiness will not allow man’s feeble attempts to ignore sin or to excuse sin to go unpunished and unanswered. There is one only way to settle the enmity between God and man and that is God’s way. There is only one way to peace with God. We will deal with this peace between God and man later in this article.

I would advise you, (if you are still with me and not sleeping at the switch), to read the article titled The Great Equalizer – Sin under the category on this website of Exploring the Word. Resuming the principle that a Holy God cannot allow sin to go unanswered

A Holy God cannot allow sin to go unanswered.

it is needful to begin at the beginning.

The first sin recorded in Scripture was the sin of rebellion, only one sin, yet in this one sin man revealed that his heart was at enmity with God. This rebellion by Adam affected the entire earthly creation, all nature, all creatures, and all mankind from that point forward would have the stain of sin implanted into their very beings. Sin does stand alone – it affected all then and it affects all now. For that one sin, Adam and Eve were banished from the home that sustained them, that supplied them with joy and comfort. They were removed from the very presence of their Creator and their God.  Their one sin brought the curse of death upon mankind. Their one sin led to the physical death of one son murdered by their first born. Their one sin destroyed the lives of two, then the lives of four, then the lives of thousands. The sin of rebellion became murder. One sin by Moses kept him from the promised land. Yes, sin does not stand alone.

The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away;

Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. (Psalm 1:4-6)

Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he? (Habakkuk 1:13)

The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but  the words of the pure are pleasant words. (Proverbs 15:26)

God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies. (Nahum 1:2)

These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. (Proverbs 6:16-19)

And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath: for all these [are things] that I hate, saith the LORD. (Zechariah 8:17)

For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones. (Isaiah 57:15)

O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth. (Psalm 96:9)
