The Message of Jonah

At The Preaching of Jonah written in 1985

To evaluate our present social and moral regression, we must consider the past. This country was founded on Biblical Christianity and not on cults and mysticism. If you care to search then look through the Harvard Books of Classics on the section on United States Documents. You will find that Christianity was the only religion recognized in those early documents. When our forefathers used the term “religion” they were speaking in terms of a Christ-centered Christianity, not cult religions. In fact, a true Christian today abandons the word “religion” and becomes fervent towards the words “Christianity” and “Christ.”

The departure from Christ can only lead to more failure, which we observe in our nation today. The church has departed from Christ and has made a league with the world and its sins, wealth, fame and glamour.

The words “separation” and “reproach” have been replaced with “Christian life-style” and “daily devotions.” To be born again from above has never been stylish to any people or to any nation. Daily devotions wear out but life-devotions endures. But what about Jonah, who was he and what was his message, and is it contemporary?

Jonah was a Hebrew prophet and was chosen by God to deliver a harsh message of judgement to the city of Ninevah, the Assyrian capital. At first Jonah rebelled against God, in a supernatural manner God turned Jonah from his rebellion, and Jonah delivered God’s message. The message was that Ninevah would fall in 40 days bythe judgment of God’s hand. The judgement of God was about to begin on a godless society that had turned their backs on the Almighty God. The sins of Ninevah were: materialism, spiritualism, adultery, sodomy, idolatry, etc.— doesn’t this sound familiar? Yes, Jonah’s message is contemporary! We are experiencing a total moral breakdown in the United States of America. At this writing God is already judging and bringing disease, distress and death to the people of this nation.

The complete depravity of our political and moral system has bottomed-out with the increase of homosexuals (sodomites),child pornographers, child abusers, men stealers, and vicious malignant murderers. There has never been a society such as this one (includingNinevah) that has given itself over to such filth.

If this country is to survive then our Jonahs need to be chastened and turned to the message of God. The prophets and men of God, in all Biblical accounts, stood fearless to societies, to nations, and to kings. So Jonah must speak again. This nation is under Divine judgment. This nation has been led astray by material goods and material gods.

“Do ye thus requite the Lord, O foolish people and unwise? is not he thy father that hath bought thee? hath he not made thee, and established thee.” Deuteronomy 32:6

“They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods, with abominations provoked they him to anger.” Deuteronomy 32:16

In concluding, we must have a national repentance towards God. Our material blessings have brought spiritual poverty not only to this nation but to the church. Therefore, God must send another Jonah to proclaim the evils of a godless society until sin is judged in the house of God. I wish to remind the church that revival will come by turning to Christ and turning from the evils around us. If we preach not Christ and Christ crucified then our preaching is in vain. For the absence of Christ brings worldliness and spiritual impotency to the church. The man of God today must deliver the message of judgement in hopes of repentance towards God. I will continue to preach Christ and Him alone — will you join me, or will you preach the world, its sins and its evil? The choice is yours but remember the wrong choice will only lead to Judgment!
