PICKING BONES in the Valley of Dry Bones – Part iii

PICKING BONES

in the Valley of Dry Bones

Part iii

The Perpetual Baby

If you haven’t guessed yet, Picking Bones in the Valley of Dry Bones are articles based on annoying and bothersome dry bones stuck to the bottom of my shoes. I rarely get a chance to challenge things that are annoying. Therefore, allow me to pick away.

Part iii deals with the abundantly blessed and catered baby. Babies are blessed and they definitely are catered. What other young creature can smell so good and smell so bad; can emote such charm and express such rage.  They are charming and once you hold their warmth in your arms it is difficult to turn your gaze away.  If only they could remain babies longer. And here is the rub, many do!

One of the many reasons that the Church is in a shambles is that we have many more babies than we have babysitters.  But these babies rarely grow.  They love being catered and fussed over. They look forward to the diaper changing, but they never think about changing their own diapers.  I do not mind babysitting; I look forward to babysitting because I desire that the babies that I talk to and write for will become babysitters themselves.

The criticism that babysitters deal with is babies need more baby talk, they need more fluffier toys to play with, they do not want to walk, but they want you to hold then upright as they walk, and they love being carried. Babysitters are told to speak slower, gentler, no more than two syllable words, and of course, small words mean smaller sentences, and smaller sentences means fewer thoughts.

Never forget to warm the milk; not too hot, nor too cold; you know lukewarm.  Never ever raise your voice, and never ever give food to the baby without chewing it first in your own mouth, thus, removing most of the nourishment from the juices that flow from the meat. Being a good babysitter is not as easy as it was once many years past. Charles Spurgeon not only spoke for hours, but he could move from Old Testament to New Testament without having to inform listeners of the difference.

To all babysitters out there, remember that your main job is to keep the baby quiet, content, happy and always smiling. Never allow a frown to furrow its little brow, it may be thinking, and thinking of course can upset the little one.
